KUCHING, Aug 24: Sarawakian students have a 99 per cent chance of having their study loans approved from Yayasan Sarawak if they opt to study in Sarawak government-owned universities.
“Yayasan Sarawak currently offers scholarships, study loans and one-off assistance for those who want to go to any university to pursue higher education,” Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian said in a Facebook post today.
“But if you go to a Sarawak government-owned university, 99 per cent you will get a study loan. If your result is good, it will be converted into scholarships,” he said.
Dr Sim, who is also Batu Kawah assemblyman, said that at the moment, the Sarawak government has also made Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses available in Centex or Sarawak skills, including in universities such as Swinburne University in Kuching, Curtin University in Miri, University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) in Sibu, and soon in ICATS university college.
“If you apply to Sarawak government-owned universities you will get in the courses that you want as long as your marks are good,” he added.
On April, Yayasan Sarawak board of trustees members Dato Richard Wee said scholarships and loans provided by Yayasan Sarawak are for all deserving Sarawakians. — DayakDaily
