SIBU, April 28: A proposal will be formulated for the construction of a waterfront for Durin, which will hopefully be ready before the upcoming Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting, says Deputy Minister of Transport Sarawak, Datuk Henry Harry Jinep.

“I have discussed with Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) chairman Councillor Sempurai Petrus Ngelai to prepare the proposal paper.

“After that, I will discuss with Dudong assemblyman Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing as this area falls under his jurisdiction,” he said.

He stressed that Tiong would then be able to seek allocation to develop the waterfront in Durin, a project which has been the dream of Durin residents.

The Tasik Biru assemblyman said this in his speech at the opening of the Simfoni Batang Rajang last night (April 27).

Henry said that the proposal paper needs to be ready before the next Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) session, which will be presented to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

At the suggestion of the carnival organising chairman, Datuk Teo Boon Siew, for the establishment of a platform in Durin for powerboat competitions, he pledged to discuss it with the Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB).

“I have conferred with the SRB controller on how we can aid in constructing a jetty for boat competitions next year, similar to the pontoon serving as a platform for remote control boats,” he added.

At the function, Henry had also graced the completion of a roof installation for the jetty on the banks of Durin town river. He approved the project, which cost RM30,000, during his visit to inspect the jetty last year. — DayakDaily
