MIRI, May 11: The passing of Senate president Datuk Mutang Tagal leaves a void that can never be filled, says Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration, and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala.

The Mulu assemblyman expressed profound grief over the loss of his long-time friend and colleague after chairing a meeting on funeral arrangements for the late Mutang at the Miri Resident’s office today.

Recalling their decades-long friendship, Gerawat reminisced about their shared journey from their college days at Kolej Tuanku Haji Bujang in Tanjong Lobang, Miri, to their studies at Universiti Malaya’s Law faculty.

“After graduating, he worked in banking, but soon we both ventured into legal practice. I remember vividly in 1982 when the late Datuk Mutang contested for Bukit Mas (now Lawas). I stood by his side on nomination day.

“We were always together at our community gatherings, supporting each other through thick and thin,” he said.

Reflecting on Mutang’s contributions, Gerawat praised his friend’s dedication and service.

“He served two terms as Bukit Mas assemblyman, giving his all for the betterment of our community. His passing leaves a void that can never be filled,” Gerawat said solemnly.
