KUCHING, March 21: Construction of SK Sri Sadong in Serian expected to be completed by Oct 2025, says Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon.

Mah said the RM22.98 million project which was approved under the 11th Malaysia Plan (RMK-11) Rolling Plan 1 (RP1) 2016, had been delayed due to issues involving amendments to the building plan based on the requirements from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) and local authorities.

“The project, which is under the supervision of Ministry of Education (MOE), is in the final stages of finalising the tender document and it is expected to be tendered in July 2022.

“The scope covers the construction of new 12 classrooms and other facilities,” said Mah when replying to a question from Serian MP Dato Sri Richard Riot Jaem regarding the status of SK Sri Sadong Serian dan SMK Serian No. 2 in the Dewan Rakyat in Kuala Lumpur, today.

Mah also disclosed that the construction of SMK Serian No. 2 was postponed because its previously proposed construction site is located along the Pan Borneo Highway and is not suitable for the construction of a new school.

As such, he said, the allocation for the acquisition of the new site for SMK Serian No. 2 has been approved under RP2 for RMK-12 2022.

“The site acquisition process is currently underway and the application to construct the new school will be applied for as soon as the process is completed,” he said. — DayakDaily
