KUCHING, April 19: Deputy Minister of Finance I Datuk Ahmad Maslan, says the Federal government expects to pay 33 toll concessionaries in West Malaysia a sum of RM93 million in toll rates as it offers road users a toll-free journey for four days, starting today (April 19).

“This is also a type of Hari Raya Aidilfitri gift for the people given by the unity government. It is to help those who need to travel far to meet friends and loved ones for the festive period.

“This is also to strengthen inter-racial relations, and I think the cost is in line with the government’s desire to help the people,” he told reporters at a press conference held at the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) Training Academy in Kuching today.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced free ‘Rahmah’ tolls during the Hari Raya period to  highway users in Peninsular Malaysia.

Earlier, Ahmad presented food baskets worth RM100 and RM150 to 30 underprivileged residents from the Petra Jaya area under the ‘Sumbangan LHDNM 2023’ programme at the Academy’s auditorium.
