KUCHING, Nov 15: The Land and Survey Department clarified that the approval of the Renewal of Land Lease (RLL) for the land title involved in the encroachment issue in Asajaya was done in line with policy involving agricultural and country land categories.

The department said in accordance with that, a field investigation was not required to determine the current use of the land.

“It is sufficient to determine the current use of the land based on the information stated by the applicant through the form submitted and certified by the applicant that all the information in the form is correct and true,” it said in a statement today.

On November 13, the Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who is also Asajaya assemblyman, called for the land encroachment issues in Asajaya to be resolved outside of court.

The department said that based on records from the Samarahan Divisional Office, the RLL application for Lot 2150 was approved on October 23, 2014, with a new lease period until November 26, 2074.

According to the statement, the department’s records found that the application for the foundation for Surau Darul Taqwa in Kampung Tambirat was submitted and approved by the State Planning Council on Oct 25, 2024.

It said that a statutory notice according to Section 48 of the Sarawak Land Code was approved on Oct 30, 2024, to take back the land of the surau site, and the land reclamation process will be completed before the end of 2024.

“The Land and Survey Department would like to remind landowners to provide accurate information, especially information regarding the current development on the land for RLL applications.

“To ensure that the RLL application process is efficient according to the set period, it is the joint responsibility of the land owners to submit accurate and correct information, especially concerning the current use of the land,” it added. — DayakDaily
