Defendants in murder case of 4yo Eric Chang receive prison sentences for drug charges

KUCHING, Aug 17: The caretaker and her husband who were charged with the murder of four-year-old Eric Chang were sentenced to five months imprisonment and a fine of RM3,000 respectively, for administering dangerous drugs.

Wendy Chai Xue Zhen, 37, and Ling Kok Liang, 51, were charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 15(1) of the same Act at two different Magistrate’s Courts.


Wendy Chai pleaded guilty to the charge before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali and was sentenced to five months’ imprisonment.

She was found administering amphetamine and methamphetamine, at the office of the Narcotics Crime Investigation unit of the Kuching District Police Headquarters at about 1.05pm on March 10, 2022.

Whereas her husband Ling Kok Liang pleaded guilty to the charge framed before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi and was sentenced to a fine of RM3,000 or in default to three months’ imprisonment.

Both of them were also charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for the alleged murder of Chang between March 4, 2022 to March 7, 2022.

The case is still pending as it awaits the prosecution to tender the forensic report in relation to the alleged murder. — DayakDaily
