KUCHING, March 17: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has emphasised the necessity of ‘hidayah’ (divine guidance) in plans to develop DeepSar–Sarawak’s own artificial intelligence (AI) system.

Speaking at the Nuzul Al-Quran event in Serian this evening, Abang Johari highlighted that although AI technology can now read human thoughts, it remains limited to algorithms and lacks divine wisdom.

“With current technology, AI can read what’s in our minds. However, one thing that scientists cannot create is hidayah.

“No matter how advanced AI becomes, it cannot attain divine wisdom,” he said.

Inspired by China’s ‘DeepSeek’ AI system, Abang Johari revealed his ambition to create ‘DeepSar’ for Sarawak.

“However, to begin this journey, we must have hidayah, and only Allah SWT can grant it to us. Science may exist, but without guidance from God, it will not succeed,” he added.

He further stressed that Sarawak’s innovations, such as hydrogen production, water resource management, and the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) project, are driven by hidayah.

At the same time, Abang Johari also warned the younger generation about the responsible use of social media, comparing it to a knife that can be beneficial or destructive depending on how it is used.

He urged them to seek guidance from the Quran to navigate the digital world responsibly. – DayakDaily
