KUCHING, Nov 25: The number of new house officers reporting for duty in hospitals in Sarawak is on a decreasing trend.

Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Michael Tiang informed that only 158 new house officers reported for duty in 2022 compared to 270 in 2020 and 222 in 2021.

“This could be due to the new placement system adopted by the Federal Ministry of Health (MOH), which allows fresh medical graduates to choose their hospital for their housemanship training,” he told the august House during the answer and question session today.

He was responding to Dato Ibrahim Baki (PBB-Satok), who questioned the number of new house officers who reported for duty in Sarawak for the past three years.

Meanwhile, Tiang also informed that there are currently four hospitals in Sarawak capable of providing housemanship training: Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), Sibu Hospital, Miri Hospital, and Bintulu Hospital. — DayakDaily
