MATU, Feb 16: Police are looking at debt as a possible motive for the murders of two Indonesian women whose bodies were found floating in Sungai Samong, Daro.
Matu-Daro police chief DSP Neil Beginda said although the police are still investigating the case from various angles, it is believed that the two women were killed because of debt issues.
However, he declined to give more details as the case is still under investigation.
A third woman believed to be a compatriot of the two murder victims who was found alive, is still undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The woman has yet to be interviewed by the police because she is still traumatized over the incident.
All three women were aged between 41 and 47-years-old.
“We have informed the Indonesian Consulate in Kuching about the murder case involving the two Indonesian women,” Neil said.
Last Saturday (Feb 12), a 31-year-old Bajau man was arrested as a murder suspect.
The suspect is currently under remand until February 20 to assist in further investigations.
The bodies of the two women were found in Sungai Samong, Daro on February 12 and 14.
It is believed they had been beaten and killed at separate locations before their bodies were dumped into the river by the suspect.
“We are still waiting for the hospital to conduct autopsies on the two women’s bodies,” said Neil.
Meanwhile, Neil warned the public to delete and stop disseminating any videos or pictures related to the case as it would interfere with the police investigation. — DayakDaily
