KUCHING, April 10: Two men were killed in a tragic multi-vehicle crash that occurred along Jalan Tun Jugah, in front of Gala City here, shortly after midnight today.
According to a statement by Kuching district police chief Supt Merbin Lisa, the fatal accident happened at approximately 12.40am when a car driven by a 37-year-old local man heading towards the airport lost control and veered into the opposite lane.
The vehicle collided with an oncoming car driven by a 40-year-old man, who was travelling towards the city centre with a 14-year-old female passenger.
Moments later, another vehicle driven by a 25-year-old man from the Kenyalang flyover direction crashed into the first vehicle, which was stalled in the middle of the road.
The impact also struck the driver and passenger of the second vehicle as they attempted to assist the driver of the first car.
The third car subsequently lost control and veered left, crashing into a fourth vehicle that was parked by the roadside.
The fourth car was driven by a 36-year-old man who had stopped to help the victims of the initial crash.
Both the first and second drivers died at the scene.
The teenage passenger suffered serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Sarawak General Hospital’s emergency unit.
The drivers of the third and fourth vehicles sustained only minor injuries.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
