KUCHING, May 27: The deadline to submit abstracts for the AsiaFlux Conference 2022 and scholarship applications has been extended to June 15 due to overwhelming demand.
After a two-year pause due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the AsiaFlux Conference themed ‘The Nexus of Land Use Change, Ecosystem and Climate: A path towards Sustainable Development Goals’ is scheduled to take place from Sept 20 to 22 at the Sarawak Tropical Peat Research Institute (Tropi) here.
Organised by the Malaysian Peat Society (MPS), in partnership with Tropi, the three-day conference aims to bring together a network of scientists, researchers, academicians, industry professionals and policymakers to share information and discuss the current trends on, among others, the topic of greenhouse gas cycling.
According to a media release today, abstract submissions should be in line with the central theme of the conference and linked to the conference’s sub-themes of ecosystem dynamics; environmental variability and climate change; land-use change; communicating science to the society; FLUXNET methane; and new instrumentation, products and tools.
Those interested in submitting their abstracts and applying for the scholarships can do so via https://www.asiaflux2022.com/, and abstract acceptance will be notified on June 30.
Meanwhile, organising chairperson Dr Lulie Melling announced that the conference would see international speakers and industry experts from Germany, Hong Kong, South Korea, France, Japan, the United States, Canada and Malaysia delivering their presentations and deliberate with participants over six purposeful sub-themes.
“In addition to the scientific programmes, other events to be featured include ice-breaking sessions and social events such as a gala dinner to create prospects for new friendships, meaningful connections, and fruitful collaborations.
“There will also be a field trip after the conference that provides an ideal opportunity for delegates to unleash their inner adventurous self to explore the beautiful sights and sounds, especially the natural wonders of Sarawak, and by extension, Borneo,” she said.
The registration date to be part of the conference is open until July 30, 2022, while early bird registration will end on June 30.
