MIRI, June 17 : A pedestrian was accosted and robbed at knifepoint in a brazen robbery in broad daylight on Jalan Nakhoda Gampar in the bustling city centre of Miri.
The incident occurred on June 15, sending shockwaves through the community.
Based on a viral video, the suspect, who was wearing a face mask, approached the victim after exiting a car. The suspect threatened the victim with a knife before forcibly removing a gold necklace. The suspect then swiftly returned to the car—suspected to be a gray Honda Jazx—driven by another suspect and sped away from the scene.
The harrowing event was captured on CCTV and a video of the incident has gone viral, with the footage being widely shared on the Miri Community Complaint Facebook page. The clear video evidence prompted swift calls for justice.
Miri Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed the incident when contacted today.
“A police report was lodged by the 29-year-old victim, and we are actively searching for the suspect,” said Alexson. He added that the robbery took place three days ago and that efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend the perpetrators.
Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the incident or the suspects’ whereabouts to come forward or call Miri Centre Police Station (CPS) at 085-433730.
As the investigation continues, residents of Miri are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police immediately.
The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code. — DayakDaily
