KUCHING, Dec 14: DayakDaily brought home an impressive haul of one gold, three silver, and two bronze awards at the 36th Kenyalang Journalism Awards (KJA) held at the Riverside Majestic Hotel earlier tonight.
Emerging writer Marlynda Chan Weng Yee clinched gold in the Community Well-being Journalism Award with her captivating story titled ‘A tale of breathtaking waterfalls, inviting homestays and the mythical mawas’.
She also earned a silver award in the Sports Reporting category and a bronze in the Journalism Award (Feature and News Feature).
Chief reporter Karen Bong Hai Cinq, a seasoned journalist, received silver in the Journalism Award (Feature and News Feature) and a bronze in the Sustainability Journalism Award.
Meanwhile, promising journalist Ashley Sim May Yee secured the silver award in the Business & Economic Journalism category.
The awards were presented by the Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during the ceremony.
This year, the event saw an impressive 390 entries across ten categories, highlighting the breadth and talent of Sarawak’s media professionals.
The categories contested included Journalism (Feature and News Feature), News Reporting, Sports Reporting, Broadcast Journalism, Sustainability Journalism, Business & Economic Journalism, Community Well-being Journalism, Photo Journalism, Photo Essay, and Digital Economy Journalism.
The event also honoured veteran journalist and videographer Haji Basri Mohamad, a former TV3 journalist based in Sarawak, with the prestigious ‘Tokoh Wartawan’ Award for his remarkable contributions to the field of journalism. — DayakDaily
