KUCHING, May 27: A group of 20 Dayak leaders here will host a joint Gawai Dayak open house at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) beginning at 9am until 1pm on June 1.
According to Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is in charge of the event, among the guests of honour will be Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.
In addition, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Hajah Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, have also been invited.
However, he also said that the invitation has been extended to everyone, including tourists.
“This open house is to reinforce the existing unity and harmony among the various races that we are indeed very privileged to enjoy (celebrating) in the true spirit of ‘segulai sejalai’ (Together in Unity),” he said.
He added that traditional Dayak food will be served during the open house, which will be accompanied by cultural performances.
“There will also be unique photography opportunities with the background of Dayak traditional settings at the foyer,” he said.
According to TVS, a courtesy call was also paid to Abang Johari by the Gawai Dayak 2025 committee members to officially extend an invitation to the Premier to attend the open house.
Among the hosting Dayak leaders are Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi; Minister of National Unity Dato Sri Aaron Dagang; Minister of Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi and his deputy minister Datuk Martin Ben; Minister in the Premier’s Department Dato Sri John Sikie; Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Dato Sri Roland Sagah and his deputy Datuk Francis Hardin, and Deputy Digital Minister Dato Wilson Ugak Kumbong.
Others are Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil; Deputy Minister of Public Health and Housing Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil; Deputy Minister of International Trade and Investment Datuk Dr Malcom Mussem; Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Liwan Lagang; and Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Snowdan Lawan.
Also joining are Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration, and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala; Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Majang Renggi; Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Native Law and Customs) Datuk Jefferson Jamit; Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Henry Harry Jinep; Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu; and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Dato Joseph Salang. — DayakDaily
