KUCHING, Dec 15: A construction company director with the title ‘Dato Sri’, who was arrested as a part of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) probe into a RM250 million corruption case, has been released on MACC bail.
The ‘Dato Sri’ suspect, represented by Counsels Roger Chin and Daniel Ling was granted RM50,000 undeposited bail with one local surety.
He is among three individuals arrested in the investigation, which includes a Datuk and a Public Works Department (JKR) civil engineer.
The civil engineer was earlier remanded but has since been released on bail.
The case involves allegations of bribery in the awarding of 38 construction projects valued at RM250 million, allegedly awarded to 24 companies controlled by the primary suspect.
Investigators are focusing on suspicious financial transactions, including RM13.7 million in cash withdrawals made through 459 cheque transactions. Payments linked to four companies tied to the suspects are also under scrutiny.
MACC has confirmed that some of the funds connected to the suspected syndicate have already been seized.
Efforts are ongoing to trace additional assets and cash, while investigators are conducting searches, interviews, and gathering tender documents and financial records to uncover more individuals linked to the case.
The case is being investigated under Section 17 of the MACC Act 2009, which addresses the solicitation and acceptance of bribes.
MACC is also pursuing leads on payments made to accomplices and companies while planning to interview key witnesses to strengthen its case. –DayakDaily
