KUCHING, Aug 21: A dinner date went horribly wrong for a 30-year-old man who was injured after being attacked by five men at a shop in Matang here today.
Acting Padawan district police chief DSP Lim Jaw Shyong said the victim was having dinner with his girlfriend around 1am at the shop when five men approached him.
One of the men accused the victim of having debt with him, which he denied.
Following this, the suspect dragged the victim out of the premises and beat him with a hockey stick before swinging a machete towards him.
Following the scuffle, the victim suffered several injuries near his body and legs.
The suspects then fled from the scene while the victim was rushed to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment.
“The police had arrested the five suspects, and the case will be investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapon, which provides for imprisonment of up to 20 years, a fine or whipping, upon conviction.
“The case is also investigated under Section 148 for possession of weapon at riot, which carries a maximum of five years imprisonment or fine or both, upon conviction.
“All suspects will be remanded at Kuching Court tomorrow for further investigation,” he said in a statement today.
At the same time, Lim requested members of the public not to make any negative speculation on the case.
He also warned that those who spread any video connected with the case could affect the police investigation and would be charged under the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998. — DayakDaily
