KUCHING, Feb 22: Daro is set to experience rapid development like Kapit due to increased infrastructure development, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said that the improved road network, including the construction of the Muara Lassa Bridge, will be a major catalyst for local economic growth.

The Premier added just like Kapit, which is connected to Sibu via road and allows increased accessibility, Daro will also experience a boost in development.

He said this during the launching of the Muara Lassa Bridge at Daro, Mukah, today.

During his speech, Abang Johari also outlined several initiatives that are currently and will be implemented to boost the economy and tourism sector in the State’s rural areas.

This includes developing Belawai into a tourist attraction with improved road connectivity and infrastructure which could potentially turn it into Sarawak’s own Hawaii.

“With better access, the services and agri-food sectors are also expected to grow and open economic opportunities for locals,” he said.

Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian and Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas; Sarawak Legislative Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar; Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development and Dalat assemblywoman Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah; Deputy Economy Minister and Mukah MP Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib; Deputy Minister in Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs and Sarawak Public Communication Unit) and Semop assemblyman Datuk Abdullah Saidol; Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad; and Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki were among those present. — DayakDaily
