KUCHING, Feb 18: Democratic Action Party Socialist Youth Sarawak (Dapsy Sarawak) accuses Sarawak United People’s Party president Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian of “shielding criminals and attempting to hinder investigation”.

In a press release today, Dapsy Sarawak criticised Dr Sim who is Deputy Premier for his statement claiming that ongoing investigations and arrests in Sarawak were attempts to disrupt Sarawak’s development.

“Such statements were shocking and suggested that SUPP was shielding criminals in Sarawak while attempting to hinder investigations.

“Dr Sim is trying to cover up corruption cases in Sarawak and even questioning the professionalism of the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

“All investigations and arrests carried out by the police and MACC are based on evidence. Does SUPP believe that corruption should be ignored in the name of so-called development? The interests of the people are severely threatened by this mindset, and Sarawak’s progress will be ruined if such thinking persists,” said Dapsy Sarawak

It emphasized that law enforcement agencies, including the police and MACC, should not be interfered with, as they have the responsibility to take action against anyone who violates the law. This includes corruption and other crimes committed within Sarawak.

To Dapsy Sarawak, labeling these enforcement actions as attempts to disrupt development is irresponsible and deserves condemnation.

“If there is nothing to hide, there should be no fear of investigations. These statements are merely an attempt to protect their own people and cover up corruption. Leaders entrusted with responsibility should uphold the rule of law, not undermine it,” said Dapsy Sarawak.

On Monday, in a news entitling “Stay united: Don’t let disruptive force, probes, arrests derail Sarawak’s progress, says Deputy Premier”, DayakDaily reports that Dr Sim warned there are forces trying to disrupt Sarawak’s progress through tactics such as investigations and arrests amid its fast growth and raising reputation.

Dr Sim thus urged Sarawakians to stay united and resolute in their pursuit of the Sarawak’s goals, regardless of the disruptive forces that may arise. — DayakDaily
