KUCHING, Dec 13: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for N12 Kota Sentosa, Wilfred Yap Yau Sin, has refuted claims by Democratic Action Party (DAP) that it is responsible for the introduction of three flyovers built along the Pan Borneo Highway.

He explained that the flyovers were part and parcel of the Pan Borneo Highway project which was initiated by the Barisan Nasional (BN) government before the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government came into power in 2018.

“We wish to emphasise here that the delay in the projects were caused by DAP’s finance minister (Lim Guan Eng) who decided to cut funding to the project and the delays caused in that exercise is being felt to this very day,” he said in a statement today.

Yap further mentioned that DAP didn’t even attempt to attend to the dire issues at the Stampin resettlement scheme when in power.

He pointed out that former elected representative for Kota Sentosa, DAP’s Chong Chieng Jen, claimed the credit for work done by people like Sarawak United Peoples’ Party’s (SUPP) candidate for Batu Kitang, Lo Khere Chiang, who in fact fought long and hard so that works on the three flyovers could continue.

“Our campaign will continue to designate our manifesto and plans for the change that we want to make in the Kota Sentosa constituency and we hope that our focus and single minded attention to Kota Sentosa will convince the voters to give us that opportunity to serve in a meaningful way,” he added.

Yap informed that since SUPP’s marginal loss in the 2016 elections, the party’s campaign has been on the ground with the people.

However, he said it was extremely difficult to properly serve the people without the access to the funds and office of an elected representative.

As such, he urged the voters to give him a chance to use the office in a meaningful manner to serve the people more efficiently.

“We have experienced 15 years in the doldrums of development therefore, this election is an opportunity for that reset needed so that Kota Sentosa will see that development not just in infrastructure but also in the youth as well as service delivery and care to the poor, needy and the elderly.

“We reiterate our focus is 100 per cent on Kota Sentosa and we hope that our opposite colleagues who are also vying for this seat will explain and detail the proposals that they have for Kota Sentosa instead of playing with rhetoric and gutter politics,” he emphasised. — DayakDaily
