KUCHING, Dec 13: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for Padungan Dato Wee Hong Seng has appealed to supporters to conduct themselves in a mature and ‘gentlemanly’ way throughout the campaign period for the 12th Sarawak Election.

Wee, who is also Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor, said this in response after some of his billboards were splattered with white paint over the weekend.

“For this election, from the beginning until the end, I have been saying let’s have a gentleman’s fight. We are mature enough and I always wish that the election is a clean and fair election.

“I would like to appeal to supporters to please show others — because there are other people around the area including foreigners who are coming to look into our election process — that we are mature people.

“You can do that to me, I can take it. I might be new in this election but please don’t do it to others. Please be more mature and stop all this,” he said during an online press conference today.

When asked if this will dampen his spirit to campaign, Wee said that he would march on.

“To me, life goes on. We have to fight until the end of election. That is the whole thing about this election; we have to do it in a gentlemanly and mature way, then people will respect us.

“I used to say that we would rather lose in a clean way than win it in a ‘dirty’ style; let’s do it that way. Let’s change how an election should be and give people the choice to choose who they want and trust enough to give their votes to,” he said. — DayakDaily
