KUCHING, Oct 25: Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen urges young people to be wary of job scam syndicates which require them to rent out personal bank accounts for a small wage.
Chong asserted that allowing unauthorised access to one’s bank account is illegal.
“Unsuspecting youths are frequently targeted, and they are often unaware of the various scams and cheating schemes that can be carried out through bank accounts.
“And because of the small rewards the youths can receive from the company, they allow the scammers to use their accounts without knowing the consequences.
“My message to today’s youth is to avoid such transactions with scammers,” he told reporters at a press conference held today in front of the Padungan police station here.
Lim was in the car with his mother when two vehicles blocked their path and the suspected gangsters attempted to intimidate and kidnap him.
Chong also expressed hope that the police would protect Lim and his family and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“When Lim filed the report and gave the police the car plate number that had blocked his car, the officer said it could be a fake car plate number and that the car plate number had a lot of criminal records, making it a very serious matter,” he disclosed.
Chong, who is also the Padungan assemblyman, advised young people who have let scammers use their bank accounts to act quickly before it is too late.
“This company, I believe, is part of a syndicate for bank scams, including online gambling.
“So I urge the police to act quickly, and if given the chance again, I will ensure that this matter is brought up in Parliament, as it must be dealt with by the authorities immediately,” he added. — DayakDaily
