KUCHING, Sept 1: The Sarawak government should invite and welcome the opposition into the State’s fight with Covid-19, says Sarawak Democratic Action (DAP) Serian chairman Brolin Nicholsion.
As described in Prime Minister Dato Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s slogan ‘Keluarga Malaysia’, Brolin said, all Sarawakians, be they in government or not, must come together for a comprehensive discussion to improve the Covid-19 situation.
He held that the State government should put aside political differences and ask opposition leaders for help whenever necessary.
“Previously, Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii suggested five ways to help the Sarawak government to fight the virus.
“The five suggestions were to increase the number of Covid-19 Assessment Centres (CAC) in outbreak areas while integrating (digital) technology to implement virtual assessment for Category 1 and 2 (patients); integrate a clear and comprehensive quarantine advisory that is understandable to all; increase the manpower of the CAC helpline and call centres; provide necessary kits for people under home quarantine, and implement better enforcement and surveillance on those home quarantined.
“These are the suggestions by Dr Kelvin Yii and it shows the readiness of DAP elected reps to join hands with the government to fight Covid-19,” he said in a statement today.
Brolin believed this collaboration could lead to a healthy political development in Sarawak while the State battles the pandemic.
“Because at the end of the day, it’s our beloved Sarawak, which we care for and love the most, that will suffer economically whereby the livelihood of every Sarawakian is affected.
“It is time for us to fight the invisible war together as ‘Anak Sarawak’ (Sarawakians),” he added. — DayakDaily
