KUCHING, Jan 24: A DAP man has urged the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) to ensure proper price control in light of the approaching Chinese New Year (CNY) festive period.
Michael Kong Feng Nian who is a special assistant to Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen, said many members of the public have lamented the increases in prices of goods.
“Cooking oil of 5kg which costs less than RM30 just two years ago during Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) time now costs RM42.
“Other basic food products that have seen an increase in pricing include chicken, pork, vegetables and eggs.
“It is high time that KPDNHEP step in to ensure proper price control. I urge its Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi to step up his efforts now especially in light of the upcoming CNY festive period,” he said in a statement today.
In the same statement, Kong disclosed that DAP together with Kuching Bodhi Path Society have collaborated to prepare CNY care packs to be distributed to 40 residents within Stampin constituency over the last two days.
These 40 recipients were identified from a long list of names of people who are in need of such assistance.
“This activity is predominantly to help the less fortunate but at the same time to spread the love and care to our fellow Sarawakians.
“DAP may not have the resources and allocation like Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) but that will never hinder us from finding ways to help the people,” he emphasised. — DayakDaily
