KUCHING, April 9: DAP Kuching and Stampin service centres have delivered essential food supplies to 110 families from Kampung Stampin, BDC here whose livelihoods have been impacted by the current Movement Control Order (MCO).
Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen in a media release today revealed the team took urgent action and arranged for the essential food items to be delivered to these families as assistance from the Welfare Department had yet to reach them.
“The Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) of Kampung Stampin had on April 2 written to the Welfare Department to highlight the needs of the 110 households within their community.
“These are people who work on a contract basis and earn a living by way of daily pay.
“They waited till April 8; regrettably, no assistance has been extended by the Welfare Department. They then contacted Michael Kong (special assistant to Chong),” he claimed.
Chong, who is Stampin MP, added that the DAP team took urgent action in view of the difficulties that these families are facing.
The food was delivered to the Kampung Stampin community hall for the community committee to arrange distribution to the 110 families.
“We hope the Welfare Department will improve their efficiency and effectiveness in the distribution of food to the poor families and those in need,” Chong added. — DayakDaily
