KUCHING, Dec 16: A proper “check and balance” is one who is able to stand tall against adversities, not be cornered by anyone to do something against their wishes, said Democratic Action Party (DAP) candidate for N12 Kota Sentosa Michael Kong Feng Nian.
According to Kong in a statement today, it is impossible for Sarawak United Peoples’ Party’s (SUPP) Wilfred Yap, to be able to be a proper check and balance as he claimed in a recent article.
“Previously, Wilfred Yap had admitted that SUPP had been cornered to become a Chinese party. In light of this, the question is whether Wilfred Yap had voiced out against this on previous occasions?
“If he had, then it shows SUPP is a powerless and toothless tiger for being unable to stand up against Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB),” he said.
Kong noted that history will show that SUPP does not have what it takes to stand up against PBB.
As such, he said, any promise to be a check and balance by SUPP towards any unfair policies was only empty talk.
“Instead, DAP has been consistently voicing out against any unfair and discriminatory policies. Vote DAP to continue our pursuit and fight for a fairer Sarawak premised on good governance,” he added.
Today, Yap, who is Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidates for N12 Kota Sentosa, expressed that he will be the check and balance in the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) to ensure fair policies for all, and assures that it will be his commitment if he is given the opportunity to stand in DUN representing Kota Sentosa.
In the coming polling day on Dec 18, Kong is contesting against four-cornered fight against Wilfred Yap Yau Sin of GPS, Lau Pang Heng of Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), Lue Cheng Hing of Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK), and Tan Kok Chiang of Sarawak Aspiration Party (Aspirasi). — DayakDaily
