KAPIT, April 24: Kapit Democratic Action Party (DAP) is calling for the building of a third water treatment plant to improve water supply in Kapit town.
Kapit DAP coordinator Paren Nyawi who is also the DAP candidate for Kapit constituency in the 14th General Election said the constant interruption of water supply and the poor quality of water in Kapit has brought much inconvenience to the people of the town.
“I thus urge the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) under the the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKLW) to provide greater allocation to allow the building of the third water treatment plant,” said Paren in a statement today.
He said although Kapit town already has two water treatment plants which have the capacity of producing 18 million litres of water per day, the two water plants just barely meet the minimum consumption of the whole town.
“After five years since the second treatment plant was put into full operation in mid 2013, the population of Kapit has increased and the government needs to solve this issue promptly.
“In addition, the authorities should seriously look into the problem of poor, murky water from the tap.”
“This is of paramount important as it is the responsibility of JBALB to provide clean treated water to ensure good health and good quality of life for the people, in this case for the people of Kapit,” said Paren. — DayakDaily
