DAP Batu Kitang holds soccer tourney to touch base with youths

KUCHING, Nov 12: The Democratic Action Party (DAP) Batu Kitang Branch is staging the Batu Kitang Rocket Cup Football Tournament for the very first time to enhance ties between Pakatan Harapan and youths here.

The event started at the SMK Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Gapor’s football field on Saturday (Nov 10) and the final will be on Dec 2.

Sarawak DAP Socialist Youth (Dapsy) publicity secretary Abdul Aziz Isa said 16 teams were taking part, including from the General Operations Force Battalion 11 (PGA) and Penrissen Army Camp 8th Mile.


“The 16 teams will play in eight matches, which is based on the knockout system. The eight teams that survive the knockout stage will proceed to the quarter-finals stage on Nov 18. The semi-finals will be on Nov 25,” he said in a press statement today.

The winning team will bring home a cash prize of RM1,600, the first runner-up will get RM1,000 cash, and the second runner-up will receive RM600 cash. They would also be trophies and medals for the winners. Each player will be given a Certificate of Participation as a token of apprecition, too.

Before he launched the tournament, Abdul Aziz advised all the teams to display sportsmanship and professionalism. — DayakDaily
