KUCHING, Dec 28: A cyclist was killed after being hit by a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle on Jalan Miri-Pujut near a supermarket in Miri at around 7.15pm on Saturday (Dec 27).
In a statement, Miri District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner (ACP) Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, said the victim was a local man aged between 45 and 50, while the driver of the 4WD was also a local man aged 23.
He said that based on initial investigations, it was made known that the 4WD driver was heading from Miri City to Permyjaya.
When he reached the Jalan Miri-Pujut near the junction of the supermarket, he collided with the cyclist who was exiting the junction.
“The victim was pronounced dead at the scene while the 4WD was not injured,” he said.
The case will be investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
He urged members of the public with information related to the accident to assist in the investigation by contacting the investigation officer, Inspector Mohammad Amiruddin Hamdan, at 018-9529957 or 085-430479.
Members of the public who may be missing a family member or relative are also encouraged to come forward at the nearest police station.
