KUCHING, Oct 9: The Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) Sarawak is currently collecting and verifying data of all registered e-hailing drivers in the State to be submitted to the relevant ministries, ensuring they benefit from the federal government’s BUDI Madani RON95 (BUDI95) petrol subsidy scheme.
CVLB Sarawak chairman Michael Kong said the effort is being carried out in collaboration with the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) and CVLB Sabah, with close coordination from all licensed e-hailing operators.
“The verified driver data will allow eligible e-hailing drivers in Sarawak to access the extended subsidy allocation announced under the BUDI95 programme,” he said in a statement today.
Starting Sept 30, 2025, approximately 16 million Malaysians aged 18 and above who hold a valid MyKad and an active driving licence are eligible for the BUDI95 petrol subsidy, which sets the RON95 price at RM1.99 per litre with a monthly cap of 300 litres per individual.
Recognising the vital contribution of full-time e-hailing drivers to the nation’s transportation ecosystem, the federal government has approved additional fuel subsidy limits for this group, effective Oct 15, 2025. The move is aimed at helping them manage operational costs and continue providing essential mobility services sustainably.
“CVLB Sarawak is working closely with all licensed e-hailing operators to ensure no legitimate driver is left behind. This process of verification and submission is essential to make sure that our e-hailing drivers can fully benefit from the government’s special allocation,” Kong said.
He added that beyond providing financial relief, the initiative also strengthens enforcement efforts against unlicensed e-hailing activities, as only registered drivers under licensed operators will qualify for the subsidy.
“This measure encourages compliance and helps authorities identify unlicensed operators and drivers more efficiently,” he said, stressing that CVLB Sarawak remains committed to supporting legitimate e-hailing drivers through fair regulation and government-backed initiatives.
Kong reaffirmed CVLB Sarawak’s dedication to working with stakeholders and enforcement agencies to uphold industry standards while safeguarding the welfare and sustainability of Sarawak’s e-hailing community.

In recognition of the crucial role played by full-time e-hailing drivers in supporting our nation’s transportation system, the federal government has agreed to extend additional fuel subsidy limits to them. Beyond financial assistance, this initiative also supports our ongoing efforts to curb unlicensed e-hailing operations. Since the extended subsidy applies only to drivers registered with licensed operators, it serves as an added incentive for compliance and allows enforcement agencies to more effectively identify and take action against unlicensed operators and drivers.
CVLB Sarawak remains committed to working closely with all stakeholders to strengthen regulatory compliance while ensuring that our legitimate e-hailing drivers continue to enjoy fair support and protection under government policies.
Yesterday (Oct 8), Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said that eligibility for additional quotas under the BUDI95 initiative for e-hailing and p-hailing drivers will be determined based on their fuel consumption with further details to be announced on Oct 15.
The government has received partial data from e-hailing companies via APAD, and the information is being reviewed to ensure the subsidy is distributed accurately. — DayakDaily
