MIRI, July 2: The Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) Sarawak has seized a parcel containing drugs worth RM156,000 in Miri on June 19.
In a statement, JKDM Sarawak director Norizan Yahya said the department’s narcotics team conducted a check at the Miri Air Cargo unit at 10.45am.
“Based on the shipment note on the parcel, the team discovered that the recipient’s address was fake and the phone number registered was not in service.
“The team then waited for the recipient of the parcel to claim the parcel at the courier’s collection office at Eastwood Industrial Estate,” said Norizan, adding that no one turned up to claim it.
Norizan added that the syndicate’s modus operandi was to use overseas courier services to ship the drugs using fake addresses and telephone numbers to avoid detection from the authorities.
The contents of the parcel included 315g of ecstasy pills, 501g of methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) powder, and 100g of ketamine, with a total street estimation value of RM156,000.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. — DayakDaily
