Customs Dept personnel seize contraband worth RM10,559.14

MIRI, June 11: Royal Malaysian Customs Department Miri personnel on Monday morning seized RM10,559.14 worth of cigarettes and liquor with unpaid duty estimated to be at RM58,510.07, following a raid of a premises in Desa Indah, Bandar Baru Permyjaya here.

During the raid, the enforcement team also arrested a man aged 40, believed to be the premises’ owner to assist probe into the case.


The offender was produced at Miri Magistrates Court today (Tuesday afternoon) before Magistrate Md Syafique Md Hilmie for remand application.

He was unrepresented, while Dayang Hilfee Siqdiqqa of the the Royal Malaysian Customs Department, Miri branch, prosecuted.

The accused has been remanded for six days to facilitate into the case investigation until June 17.

According to the facts of the case, a Royal Malaysian Customs Department Miri team conducted a raid at a premises at Lot 5252, Jalan Desa Indah Bandar Baru Permyjaya on Monday morning and discovered the contraband.

They also compounded a lorry in which some of the seized contraband were also found.

The case is framed under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967. — DayakDaily
