CM to grace state-level Gawai do in Kuching

KUCHING, June 11: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg will grace the state-level Gawai Dayak gathering at Imperial Hotel here on June 15.

The invitation was extended during a courtesy call on him by the main organising committee led by its chairman, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, this morning.

Present were the committee members, including Datuk Seri Michael Manyin Jawong, Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi, Datuk Dr Jerip Susil and Datu Dr Penguang Manggil.


Others present were Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, Datuk Gerawat Jala, Datuk Ik Pahon, Datu Ranum Mina, Dato Henry Jinep, Martin Micheal Ben and John Ilus.

On this annual event, Uggah said, “We invited the chief minister so that he can, among others, advise the Dayak community on the roles they can play in strengthening ties and unity among all Sarawakians in the light of the current situation.”

Uggah added that Abang Johari had also been invited to another Gawai Dayak function organised by Kuching Division Dayak Iban community leaders on June 18.

“We have one Iban temengong, one pemanca, seven penghulu and 40 tuai rumah in Kuching Division. They will bring up to the attention of the chief minister problems and issues faced by the community, such as in housing, education, social and others,” Uggah said. — DayakDaily
