Customs Department raids house to find RM696k worth of smuggled liquor, cigarettes

MIRI, Sept 7: The Royal Malaysian Customs Department Sarawak has seized contraband liquor and cigarettes worth RM696,553.44 inclusive of unpaid taxes in Miri last Sunday afternoon.

Sarawak Customs director Mohd Nadzri Ariffin said the seizures were made during a raid at a house on Sept 4, at around 1.30pm.


“We believed the house was being used to hide the contraband goods such as cigarettes and liquor before distributing them to the local market,” he said.

The value of contraband cigarettes and liquor is estimated to be worth RM179,820.00, while the duties and taxes involved are about RM516,733.44.

The case is being investigated under Section 135 (1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967. — DayakDaily
