KUCHING, July 15: The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Service (Cuepacs) Sarawak is urging the government to investigate the origin of the Covid-19 outbreak at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) in Shah Alam.
Following news reports of 204 Covid-19 cases at Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) PPV in Shah Alam, Cuepacs Sarawak chairman Omar Bahrein Unin said those who are working at PPVs are considered frontliners and their safety and health should be top priority as well as be protected.
He said the government must tighten the standard operating procedures (SOP) at other vaccination centres (PPV) to prevent frontliners who are administering the Covid-19 vaccination from becoming infected.
“Cuepacs is concerned that there are workers at PPVs who are infected with Covid-19.
“The incident which happened at IDCC in Shah Alam is the first of such a case.
“The impact which affects the workers should be taken into consideration from various aspects to prevent it from happening at other PPV as they are frontliners which are at high risk and exposed to the coronavirus infection,” he said in a statement today.
Omar added the safety and health of workers is listed under Occupation Safety and Health Act 1994 (Act 514) and those administering the Covid-19 vaccine are mostly civil servants and they should be given adequate protection while performing their duties.
He said the government ought to provide adequate protection and implement stringent SOPs, including considering workers who have taken two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to work at PPVs to prevent similar incident from happening. — DayakDaily
