Crunch down on MCO defiers continues with 124 individuals arrested

KUCHING, Apr 18: Police have arrested 124 individuals for flouting the Movement Control Order (MCO) in Sarawak over the past 24 hours.

State Deputy Commissioner of Police Datuk Dev Kumar disclosed in a statement today that of the figure, 73 offenders have been charged in court.

Kuching maintained the area with the highest number of arrests at 30.

This is followed by Kota Samarahan (19); Sarikei (13); Padawan (11); eight each in Miri and Bintulu; Sibu (7); Serian (6); five each in Sri Aman and Meradong; Simunjan (4); two each in Bau, Betong and Limbang; and one each in Tatau and Mukah.

Since MCO was enforced on March 18, a total of 1,011 offenders have been arrested and 593 charged in court.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee, the compliance rate for the MCO in Sarawak stood at 97 per cent as of yesterday (Apr 17).

Sarawakians have been urged to continue to comply with all directives from the state government in order to break the chain of Covid-19 infection in Sarawak.—DayakDaily
