LIMBANG, July 9: A crocodile was briefly spotted surfacing with what appeared to be human remains in its mouth during a search and rescue (SAR) operation for a 58-year-old man who went missing while fishing near Kampung Pandam on Tuesday (July 8).
Operations Commander Mazrom @ Anderson Ampahon from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Limbang said the SAR operation on the first day was called off at 6.17pm due to safety concerns and fading daylight.
The operation is expected to resume this morning, involving personnel from Bomba, the Royal Malaysia Police, Marine Police, Seberang Kedai Volunteer Fire Brigade, and local villagers.
The victim, identified as Karim Osman, was feared to have been attacked by a crocodile while fishing along the riverbank of Kampung Pandam. The incident was first reported at 3.13pm.
Eyewitnesses at the scene said only the victim’s belongings and fishing equipment were found by the riverbank.
The matter was later reported to the Limbang District Police Headquarters (IPD Limbang). — DayakDaily
