KUCHING, June 28: A 32-year-old man is feared to be the latest victim of a crocodile attack while fishing at a river near Jalan Matang-Kampung Paroh here on Friday night (June 27).
According to a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), an emergency call was received at 10.30pm, and firefighters from the Petra Jaya and Batu Lintang stations were deployed.
Upon arrival, it was noted that the victim, Jacob Tuan, was reportedly fishing along the riverbank when he was attacked at approximately 10pm, 200m from the road, prompting his family to lodge a police report.
However, it was reported that the search and rescue (SAR) team faced difficulties due to thick vegetation and poor visibility.
The SAR operation was postponed at 12.30am today following discussions with the police and other agencies, and resumed earlier today.
Meanwhile, in a separate statement, Padawan District Police Chief, Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi, confirmed that the police received a report on the incident.
He stated that the SAR operation was activated at 8am today.
