Croc attack suspected as cause of 8-year-old boy’s death

MIRI, March 24: The body of an eight-year-old boy who was earlier feared drowned after he fell into a river at Lorong Mulia 5C, Tudan was recovered with crocodile bite marks this evening.

Mohd Fairus Mohd Dais’ body which had bite marks on the right leg was found at 6.45pm not far from the location where he was reported to have fallen into the river earlier.

Prior to the incident at around 5pm, the victim together with his cousin and four other friends had gone to the area to fish.


Fire and Rescue Department personnel are seen working to find Mohd Fairus’ body at the scene.

According to the boy’s cousin, Daus Daiz, 12, the group had been playing and fishing in the area before Mohd Fairus fell into the river which was covered with aquatic plants.

“We tried to pull him out of the river but to no avail; it was as if something was dragging him into the river and it happened in less than two minutes,” he said at the scene when met by DayakDaily.

One fire engine and firefighters from the Lopeng fire station were immediately dispatched to the scene after received a distress call about the incident.

The body has been brought to Miri Hospital.
