This is also the second world cup event hosted in Sarawak, following the 1997 FIFA World Youth Championship held in Kuching nearly 28 years ago.

The tournament is scheduled to take place at the Borneo Cricket Ground from Jan 18 to 28, with the remaining matches to be held in Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru.

In a news report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS), Sarawak will co-host 10 of the 42 matches including the preliminary round of Group C involving teams from New Zealand, South Africa, Nigeria and Samoa.

The second round of the Super 6 will also be held here, with the best teams from Groups B and C competing.

All matches will be broadcast live to more than 180 countries through the Star Sports and ICC platforms.

The ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup will take place at four locations in Malaysia.

The 15-player contingents and their crew members are scheduled to attend a welcome dinner tonight which will also be graced by the Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED), Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

In a previous report, Abdul Karim revealed that Sarawak plans to complement the sporting event with a festival showcasing local food, crafts, and culture at the adjacent festival grounds.

He further urged local residents to support the World Cup matches, which will feature teams from New Zealand, South Africa, Nigeria, and Samoa, along with top teams advancing to the Super 6 round. – DayakDaily
