KUCHING, Oct 17: Sarawak reported four new Covid-19 cases including two children today.
The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said all four were traced in Kuching and that brings the state’s tally of confirmed infections to 763.
“Today’s cases were all close contacts to one of the positive cases which was detected through a second screening on the 10th day during the 14-day mandatory quarantine. The case index came from the 719th patient, a Malaysian with the history of travelling to Covid-19 infection high risk areas in Sabah. He was screened and tested positive on Oct 6.
“The four were exposed between between Oct 2 and 6 when the case index was undergoing home quarantine. The first rT-PCR test screening conducted on Oct 6 on all four were negative. They were then admitted into the quarantine centre to undergo the remaining 14 days as required,” SDMC secretariat disclosed in a statement.
On Oct 16, all four were screened for the second time and their rT-PCR test results turned out positive today. They did not show signs or symptoms of Covid-19.
Meanwhile, no new clusters were reported today while the remaining active ones in Sarawak are Bah Arnab Cluster in Kuching and Putra Cluster in Bintulu.
Sarawak also recorded four recoveries and they were all discharged from Sarawak General Hospital.
This brings the total tally of recoveries cases in Sarawak to 700.
Currently, 44 cases are isolated and being treated at Sarawak General Hospital (27), Miri Hospital (eight), Bintulu Hospital (seven) and Sibu Hospital (two).
Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu and Lubok Antu districts’ status remains at yellow. —DayakDaily
