KUCHING, Sept 9: Sarawak registered nine more deaths due to Covid-19 today including two brought-in-dead (BID) cases.
According to a report from the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the BID cases involved a 75-year-old man from Simunjan and an 82-year-old woman from Kuching, both with comorbidities.
The other seven fatalities comprised three men and four women aged between 66 and 87 from Lubok Antu, Miri, Kuching, Sibu and Saratok who had comorbidities.
The death toll due to Covid-19 in Sarawak now stands at 602.
Meanwhile, the State reported 3,118 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative number of cases in Sarawak to 144,030.
From the new cases today, 78.09 per cent or 2,435 cases were asymptomatic, 21.78 per cent or 679 cases had mild symptoms, 0.03 per cent or one cases had lung infections, 0.06 per cent or two cases had lung infection and required oxygen, and 0.03 per cent or one case had lung infection and required breathing support.
There was also a single Import A case comprising an individual from Brunei and five Import B cases comprising individuals from Selangor, Sabah, Kuala Lumpur and Johor, whereby all were asymptomatic.
A total of 35 districts in Sarawak reported new Covid-19 cases.
They include 10 districts with triple-digits increases consisting of Kuching with 984 cases, Sibu (430), Betong (200), Bau (143), Bintulu (140), Sri Aman (132), Samarahan (131), Serian (117), Miri (113) and Song (112).
The districts with two-digit figures comprise Julau with 65 cases, Subis (54), Sarikei (51), Mukah (51), Kapit (43), Selangau (38), Lubok Antu (37), Asajaya (33), Tatau (30), Meradong (29), Limbang (27), Pakan (25), Tebedu (24), Simunjan (20), Bukit Mabong (20), Pusa (17), Telang Usan (13), Saratok (11) and Kabong (11).
Districts reporting single-digit gains were Beluru with eight cases, Kanowit (3), Lawas (2), Dalat (2), Matu (1) and Marudi (1).
A total of 2,334 Covid-19 patients were reported as recovered and discharged, bringing the cumulative number of recoveries in Sarawak to 108,132 cases or 75.08 per cent of the State’s overall cases.
A total of 35,068 Covid-19 patients are still receiving treatment for the coronavirus with 70 patients in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) and 18 patients on ventilator support. — DayakDaily
