KUCHING, Feb 21: Sarawak Metro is temporarily suspending its trial operation and passenger service of their hydrogen buses for both the Downtown Heritage Loop and Damai Loop routes until further notice.

According to Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd (Sarawak Metro), in a press statement today, the temporary suspension of the trial operation and passenger service is part of the company’s precautionary safety measures due to their drivers having close contact with a third-party contractor who tested positive for Covid-19 recently.

“Sarawak Metro is now making the arrangement for all our hydrogen bus drivers to undergo a Covid-19 screening and we are also sanitising all the buses,” it said.

Sarawak Metro noted, since resuming their trial operation on Sept 2 last year, they have adhered strictly to all the standard operating procedures (SOPs) outlined by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

It said this includes regular sanitising inside the vehicles, ensuring everyone in the bus wears face masks and taking every passenger’s body temperature.

“We regret any inconvenience caused by the temporary suspension of the hydrogen bus trial operation and we will duly notify the public once the passenger service is resumed,” the statement read. — DayakDaily
