Covid-19 ... Clusters cause spike in cases.

KUCHING, March 17: A Covid-19 positive worker of a shopping mall in Jalan Merpati, Miri, has spread the infection to 50 other people including family members and colleagues, thus triggering a new workplace cluster known as Jalan Merpati.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily Covid-19 situation update for Sarawak, reported that a workplace cluster has been identified at a shopping mall in Jalan Merpati in Miri city.

The index case, or Case 11,094, was a 45-year-old woman who was detected from symptomatic screening when receiving treatment at Miri Hospital on March 7.

As a result of further investigation as well as contact tracing and screening for workplace colleagues and family members, 50 people have been found to be positive of Covid-19.

SDMC disclosed that as of today, a total of 310 individuals have been screened whereby 193 were negative and 66 were still waiting for lab test results.

All the 51 positive cases were now isolated and treated at Miri Hospital and Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) Miri.

With a new cluster, this thus increased the number of active clusters in Sarawak to 32.
