Covid-19: New Rakut Cluster confirmed in Miri

KUCHING, Jan 19: The State Health Department has identified a new Covid-19 cluster in Miri which has been named the Rakut Cluster.

The Rakut Cluster was confirmed following active case detection for a Covid-19 patient who tested positive on January 12.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the active case detection has identified nine cases including six new cases today.

“The index case to this cluster is Case 1,740 which was identified following screenings for Covid-19 cases on January.

“The results of the active case detection to the case has discovered nine cases including six new cases today.

“As of January 19, 12pm, a total of 33 individuals have been screened,” he said when giving updates on the state’s Covid-19 situation at a press conference here today.

Uggah who is also the Deputy Chief Minister confirmed there were 10 cases linked to the Rakut Cluster including the index case so far.

Meanwhile, concerning ongoing screening for the cluster, there are 16 individuals awaiting laboratory results while seven have tested negative.

With this, there are currently eight active Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak, comprising the Rakut Cluster (Miri), Bukit Sekubong Cluster (Sebauh), Jelita Cluster (Miri), Pasai Cluster (Sibu), Keranji Tabuan Cluster (Kuching), Bah Sayap Cluster (Miri), Stutong Cluster (Kuching) and Mador Cluster (Meradong).

Other than the Rakut Cluster, five other clusters reported an increase in the number of new cases today.

They are the Pasai Cluster with 90 new cases, Jelita Cluster (5), Bukit Sekubong Cluster (2), Bah Sayap (1) and Keranji Tabuan (1). — DayakDaily
