KUCHING, Jan 19: As of today, 13 staff from the Sibu Hospital have been confirmed positive for Covid-19.

This was disclosed by Sarawak Health Director Dr Chin Zin Hing when giving updates on the Covid-19 situation in the state during a press conference at the former State Legislative Assembly building here today.

He said like every other Covid-19 patient, these medical staff have been hospitalised and the process of contact tracing has also started.

“Once they are positive, they are patients, we have to admit them. And then we have to trace their contacts to test whether they (those in contact with the 13 medical staff) are positive also and we have to quarantine those contacts,” said Dr Chin.

He acknowledged that with these 13 medical staff testing positive, Sibu Hospital will see a staff shortage. The Health Department is resolving the problem by mobilising medical staff from other hospitals and clinics to help the affected hospital.

“In this case, of course, the staff will be short-handed. That is why we mobilised the staff from other hospitals and other clinics to help out in Sibu (Hospital).

“We will still try to mobilise the staff so that Sibu Hospital can function,” said Dr Chin. — Dayakdaily
