Covid-19: Meradong, Song turn into orange zones

KUCHING, Feb 22: The Meradong and Song districts have turned into orange zones of Covid-19 today following an increase in Covid-19 cases.

According to a press statement from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today, Meradong has reported a total of 31 Covid-19 cases of local infection in the past 14 days.

The committee added there were 24 cases of Covid-19 identified as of Feb 22 and out of that 19 cases were detected from a new cluster of Covid-19 known as the Sungai Bakong Cluster which involved students in a boarding school.

Following active case detection (ACD) exercise at the school’s dormitory, there was an increase of 21 positive cases of Covid-19.

All teachers, staff and students of the boarding school which were exposed to the close contact were undergoing quarantine for Covid-19.

At the same time, the Song district has also turned into an orange zone of Covid-19 with a total of 35 cases of local transmission in the past two weeks.

An orange zone of Covid-19 is a zone whereby there were a total of 21 to 40 cases reported in the past fortnight.

With Meradong and Song declared as orange zones of Covid-19 in Sarawak, there are a total of six districts classified as orange zones of Covid-19.

They are Meradong, Song, Bukit Mabong, Beluru, Dalat and Sri Aman.

Kuching, Samarahan, Julau, Subis, Kapit, Bintulu, Kanowit, Miri and Sibu remained as red zones of Covid1-19 with a total of 2,107 cases of local infection for the past two weeks.

Sarikei, Lundu, Bau, Matu, Selangau, Betong, Saratok, Sebauh, Tatau, Pakan, Serian and Belaga stayed as yellow zones of Covid-19 with a total of 65 cases of local transmission in the past fortnight.

There are 13 districts namely Lawas, Daro, Simunjan, Lubok Antu, Telang Usan, Asajaya, Limbang, Tanjung Manis, Tebedu, Mukah, Pusa, Kabong and Marudi which reported zero cases of local transmission in the past two weeks. — DayakDaily
