Covid-19: Malaysia records 869 new cases, four deaths

KUCHING, Oct 17: Ministry of Health (MOH) disclosed 869 local transmission cases involving positive Covid-19 have been reported in the country today.

According to Health director general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, from the total number of cases recorded, a total of 745 cases involved Malaysians while 124 cases were foreigners.

“The highest number of cases were reported in Sabah with 451 cases, followed by Penang (189), Selangor (159), Kedah (38), Kuala Lumpur (15), Sarawak (four), Perak (four), Terengganu (three), Johor (two), Putrajaya (two), Negeri Sembilan (one) and Melaka (one).


“This brings the total cumulative number of positive Covid-19 cases in the country to 19,627 cases, with 6,886 active cases, (35.08 per cent),” he said during a press conference on the development of Covid-19 in the country, today.

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham also noted 302 cases of positive Covid-19 had recovered and discharged from the hospital today, bringing the total cumulative of recovered and discharged cases involving Covid-19 to 12,561 cases (64.00 per cent).

However, he said, four deaths cases involving Covid-19 were reported by Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC) which was recorded in Sabah, involving three Malaysians and one foreigner.

“This brings the total number of deaths involving Covid-19 in the country to 180 cases (0.92 per cent), and currently, 91 cases are being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU), with 30 of them under respiratory assistance,” he added. –DayakDaily.
