Covid-19: Malaysia records 25 new cases today

KUCHING, Aug 7: Malaysia recorded 25 new positive Covid-19 cases today, including 16 local transmission.

Ministry of Health (MOH) director general Datuk Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement via its Facebook said the country now registered a total of 9,063 cases.

Of the 16 local cases, 12 were from PUI Sivagangga Cluster in Kedah, Perlis and Penang, while the rest are Perak (2), Kuala Lumpur (1) and Johor  (1).


The PUI Sivagangga Cluster has recorded 43 positive cases comprising 38 Malaysians and five foreign nationals from Kedah (31), Perlis (11) and Penang (1).

As of 12 noon today, MOH said 3,246 people from this cluster had taken the swab test, with 2,320 negative and 883 still pending result.

Following the number of positive cases announced today, a total of 1,884 close contacts to this cluster have been identified and samples will be taken from them, who are staying in either Perlis or Penang.

Active case detection is ongoing, and the ministry is currently conducting preventive measures such as disinfection and decontamination carried out at areas that have been identified as closely related to this cluster.

Meanwhile, the remaining nine positive cases reported today were import cases registered in Sabah, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Sarawak.

The nine cases were eight Malaysians and one foreign national returning from the Philippines, United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Djibouti, Australia and Yemen.

MOH also announced 15 more patients have recovered and were discharged from hospitals, bringing the rate of recovery to 8,728 cases

The number of active cases as of today stands at 210.

No fatality was reported to the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC) today, making the total number of cumulative death cases remained at 125.

Two patients are currently being treated in the intensive care unit with one needing ventilator support.-DayakDaily
