Covid-19: Limbang goes from green to yellow zone

KUCHING, April 28: Limbang, which was previously categorised as a Covid-19 green zone with no positive cases for the last 14 days, had its status reverted to yellow after one new case was recorded there today.

State Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas revealed that Sarawak confirmed eight new Covid-19 cases today, out of which four were from Kuching district, three from Samarahan and one from Limbang.


“It proves that the it is important for the quarantine policy to be implemented. The patient was quarantined in Limbang upon returning from Brunei. The patient was tested on the 10th day.

“Of the eight cases, one involved a healthcare worker in Kuching while four were linked to the Kuching conference cluster, one sporadic (case) and one is still under investigation,” he told a daily press conference on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak today.

With these new cases, the total number of Covid-19 positive cases in the state climbs to 496.

Uggah also revealed Sarawak recorded 11 new recoveries with six patients discharged from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), four from Miri Hospital and one from Sibu Hospital.

In total, 204 patients have recovered from Covid-19 in the state since the infection was first detected.

There were currently 270 patients treated in health facilities throughout the state, while six are in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) with four on ventilator support.

Meanwhile, Uggah disclosed that Sarawak also recorded 123 more person-under-investigation (PUI) cases today with 111 cases awaiting laboratory test results.

“There were 63 more Sarawakians returning to the state who have been checked into identified hotels as PUI to undergo the compulsory 14-day quarantine, while 61 individuals have completed the procedure and were allowed to go home,” he added. ā€” DayakDaily
